Scholarship Information
The John P. Healy Jr. Scholarship was created in the memory of John P. Healy, a beloved Oak Ridge High School Drama Teacher and mentor. This scholarship is designed to recognize students who have:
- Completed a minimum of one year of Drama at ORHS with a grade of B or better
- Participated in a minimum of (2) ORHS Drama productions

Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be an enrolled student at Oak Ridge High School, El Dorado Hills, California during the current school year.
- Available to seniors graduating between August 1, 2024 and July 31, 2025 or students who have obtained their GED and would have graduated high school between August 1, 2024 and July 31, 2025
- Applicant must have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4-point un-weighted scale.
- Applicant must be enrolling full time (At least 12 college credit hours) in the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters.
- Recipient of this award must attend an approved accredited two-or four-year U.S. college or university listed on the official website of the U.S. Department of Education (ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.asp).
- Applicant receiving any other funds that pay entirely for tuition, fees, books, and on-campus room and board will not be eligible to receive this scholarship.
- Applicant is ineligible if attending government or military academies.
- Applicant providing any information or records or making any statement that is false or misleading will be disqualified.
- Applicant must have completed a minimum of one year of Drama Course at ORHS with a grade of B or better AND have participated in a minimum of two ORHS Drama productions.
Conditions of Award
- The applicant and college selected must meet all “Eligibility Requirements and Conditions of Award” requirements in order to receive the scholarship funds.
- Selection announcements are mailed or emailed by May 1, 2025. Non-winners are notified by email by May 20, 2025 or by USPS for those with no email address.
- This non-renewable award is a one-time payment issued by “Oak Ridge Theatre Arts Boosters” (ORTAB). The checks will be handed to the recipient at the scholarship ceremony.
- Funds are applied to cover tuition, books, fees and on-campus room and board for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters.
- Funds not used in the 2025 - 2026 academic year will be forfeited.
- Funds may be applied to studies overseas provided that the study is a condition of the recipient's degree plan.
- Recipients are required to supply ORTAB with all requested information and to notify ORTAB of any changes of contact information or school enrollment.
Winner Selection
ORTAB will provide a Selection Committee comprised of one Board member, one school counselor, one school administrator, one teacher, and one Booster parent to ensure the impartial and confidential evaluation of applications, and may select up to three winners based on a combination of academic record, ACT/SAT test scores, school and community activities and leadership, and financial circumstances.
Amount awarded amongst applicants can be up to $1500.
Responsibilities of Recipients
Recipient must be actively enrolled in the Fall of 2025 and for the entire academic year without interruption, barring illness, emergency, or military service.

- Essay - qty 1 , Topic: Discuss ONE person in your field of study that has made an impact and inspired you to continue your performing arts path. List your experience in the Theater Arts Department at Oak Ridge High School and explain how your experience in the Theater Arts Department at Oak Ridge High School has impacted you. (MINIMUM of one year of Drama Class at ORHS with a grade of B or better AND participation in 2 Oak Ridge Drama productions REQUIRED), Word Count: 500 - 750 words
