Students may enter the PARC Essay Scholarship Contest by submitting an original essay of 500 words or less describing their response to the following question about the North and Middle Fork American River canyons located upstream of Folsom Reservoir, in the Auburn State Recreation Area:
Prompt: Why do you care about the American River and its canyons, and what should be done to help protect them for the future? Please describe any activities you have participated in that relate to the river or canyons.
Protect American River Canyons is a river education and conservation organization dedicated to the protection of the natural, recreational, cultural and historical resources of the North and Middle Forks of the American River and its canyons. PARC is very active in the community, sponsoring a variety of social, river service and educational events each year. PARC remains vigilant to the threats to the river canyons. PARC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Additional Scholarship Information
Selection of Scholarship Winners:
- Essays will be judged based on originality, response to topic
question, overall impact and engagement in environmental,
educational, recreational or other stewardship activities
concerning the American River and its canyons. - Winners will be invited to read their essay at a PARC event, which
may be recorded. - Winners will each receive a scholarship of $500 or more which
may be applied toward any education-related expenses.
