Instructions below. Directions, guidelines, and selection criteria is explained on their website. Please read everything carefully. We have highlighted a few requirements here, but extensive information can be found on their website.
- Contestants must be in good academic standing
- Contestants who are under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian to enter the contest
- PSR/Sacramento employees and board members and their first-degree relatives are not eligible to enter the contest.
- Contestants are encouraged to discuss the essay topic with teachers, parents, friends, and other mentors, but each contestant must write the essay himself or herself, in his or her own words.
- In order to be eligible for a scholarship award, students who are chosen as finalists or alternate finalists must also submit an essay contest signature form which includes a statement signed by the contestant documenting that the essay being submitted is his or her original work; and a statement by a school official confirming that the contestant is a student in good standing, on track graduate from the 12th grade in 2024, or that the student entered high school on track to graduate in 2024 but graduated early.
Only one essay will be considered for any individual student. If more than one essay is submitted by an individual student, the last essay submitted will be the one that is considered.
Open to high school seniors in Sacramento and surrounding counties. Total scholarship award of $15,000 to be distributed to 12 students. Sponsored by the Sacramento Chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility.Scholarship Requirements

Additional Scholarship Information
1st place winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship
2nd place winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship
3rd place winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship
The other 7 contestants will receive $1,000 scholarship
2 alternate finalists will receive $250 scholarship
