Scholarship Information

Bob Matranga had a career in law enforcement for Sacramento City Police Department for 30 years. He was also an instructor for the Police Academy. His family has established this memorial scholarship to honor him. This scholarship will be funded by family donations through the Gold Country Sons and Daughters of Italy. Italian heritage is required to apply.

El Dorado High School, Independence Continuation, Mountain View High, Oak Ridge High School, Ponderosa High School, Union Mine High School, Pacific Crest Academy
Ethnicity Requirement:
Italian Descent
College Requirement:
Applicant must attend an accredited institution after high school.
Other Requirements:

Must be of Italian heritage to apply.

Additional Scholarship Information

Scholarship recipients will be selected on the following Criteria:

  1. Two Letters of Recommendation (15%) from nonrelated persons which include your character, activities, and community involvement.
  2. Honors and Awards Received in High School in Chronological Order (Items 2,3,4 & are 25% of your score.)
  3. High School Extracurricular Activities in Chronological Order (included with #2)
  4. Community and Employment Activities (Start/end and responsibilities are included)(included with #2)
  5. Your transcript includes GPA, courses with grades and, College entrance exam scores, if applicable, is included with your application. (10%)
  6. Your application includes a statement of your career goals with vocational focus, major, minor, and academic or other preparation. (25%)
  7. Your application for the Italian Heritage Scholarship includes a double spaced typed brief essay summarizing you heritage, family customs, participation in Italian American community activities, etc. (25%)

The payment of the Matranga Memorial Scholarship is based on the proof of enrollment at a recognized post-secondary Academy, College, or University, public or private, offering academic courses leading to a degree or certification. The scholarship payment will be made at the first board meeting after the proof of enrollment and class schedule have been received.
