Scholarship Information

The Divide Recreation Association (DRA) is a non-profit organization devoted to providing the community with sports opportunities and giving back to local schools and organizations. The DRA has established The Delbert Beam Scholarship fund for local students to contribute financially to their education and overall growth.

The DRA will award two $500 scholarships each school year. The scholarships will be available for a junior/senior softball player and a junior/senior baseball player at Golden Sierra Jr. Sr. High School.

The scholarship can be used to supplement the cost of continuing education or for the next steps in the applicant's life (including, but not limited to, vocational training programs, seminars/workshops, costs associated with testing/applications for college or goods/services that promote the applicant's personal growth).

High School Requirement:
American River Charter (TK-12), Divide High School (9th-12th), Golden Sierra High School
Other Requirements:

To apply for this scholarship, the applicant will be required to write a personal essay. The essay should be a minimum of 500 words (approximately 2-pages, typed, double- spaced).

Essay Topic: As an athlete, what “lessons” have you learned that you will be able to apply outside of sports in your everyday life?

The essay should also include responses to the statements below:

  • Tell us about yourself and why you are applying for this scholarship.
  • Describe how you plan to use the scholarship funds.
  • Explain how your experience as a member of a team has contributed to your overall success.
  • Share your plans for the future.
