Scholarship Information

Kaylee Elaine West was born on December 6, 1986 and passed away on February 8, 2011, at the age of 24. Kaylee passed away suddenly from a brain aneurism.

Kaylee was the consummate “band geek”- and proud of it! While a student at Oak Ridge High School, Kaylee was a member of the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. She also loved being in the marching band. At the time of her passing, Kaylee was an organ donor, demonstrating her kindness and generous concern for others.

This scholarship has been established by Ken and Linda West (Kaylee's parents), Mr. Paul Varoff (ORHS Band Director), and the ORHS Music Boosters.


Scholarship Requirements

High School Requirement:
Oak Ridge High School
GPA Minimum:
3.00
College Requirement:
Must enroll at a 4-year accredited college, university, or conservatory in the Fall
Career/Major Requirement:
Performing Arts Major or Minor is preferred, but not required
Other Requirements:
  • Applicant must be an enrolled student at Oak Ridge High School in junior and senior year and graduating in the current year
  • Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 unweighted scale
  • A participant in high school band for 4 years with a minimum of 2 years at Oak Ridge including junior and senior year
  • Attending a 4 year accredited college, university or conservatory. A music major/minor is preferred but not required
  • Must enroll in a performance ensemble at the chosen college, university or conservatory (orchestra, band, jazz band, marching band, etc) in the Fall semester.
  • Other considerations will include community service and extra-curricular activities

Additional Scholarship Information

The scholarship application selection committee shall consist of: A representative from the West Family, the current ORHS Band Director, and an option for the West Family to choose a 3rd committee member.

The scholarship will be awarded at the start of the recipient's college freshman year. (Proof from the university must be submitted at the start of the scholarship recipient's freshman year)
